The Land of Canaan

After the Exodus from Egypt and forty years in the wilderness, Joshua led Israel across the Jordan. The land was divided by lot among the tribes descended from the sons of Jacob (Israel). The tribe of Levi received no land (the LORD was their inheritance), while Joseph's portion was split between his sons Ephraim and Manasseh.

"And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein." (Joshua 21:43)
